This forum has been created to support the ATutor move toward a modularized tool set. Find help. Discuss your experiences with the Add-ons you have used, and suggest improvements. Suggest new add-ons. Let others know about your add-ons and about others add-ons you have found useful.

In the 1.5.2 release of ATutor the ATutor Add-on Manager will be introduced. This move has been underway since the ATutor 1.4.3 release, reworking the various tool characteristics into a form that would make it easier to add extensions to ATutor. Two such Add-ons have been created so far as an exercise to determine exactly what the ATutor Module Manager needs to manage. These two modules are briefly described below. Follow the links to find out more. ACollab is a coming candiate for another set of add-on tools, integrating its features seamlessly into ATutor.

1. Ewiki: Based on ErfurtWiki, this add-on is essentially a "wrapper" for the ErfurtWiki library. This is a fairly simple integration. The Erfurtwiki library requires Web site to plug into. ATutor provides that site. Upgrading the Ewiki addon is as simple as replacing the current source code of Erfurtwiki in the addon, with a copy of the new source code from th Erfurtwiki web site. Menu links, student tool options, users privleges are added by inserting a reference to the addon in the dynamic lists that contain the various tool charcteristics mentioned above See the ATutor Demo, which includes a version of the integrated Ewiki module. You can also Download Ewiki to istall on your ATutor installation to study before creating a Add-on for another similar application

2. ATalker: Based on the Festival text-to-speech system, ATalker is a Web-based text reading utility. It is somewhat more complex than the Ewiki add-on. including adminstrator, theme, and output formatting features, in additon to the student and intructor tools found in the simpler Ewiki add-on. ATalker also looks for Ogg and Mp3 encoders on the sytem and makes those encoders available for playing speech files, downloading them, saving them, or generating speech files for ATutor interface language. This module optionally incorporates five different open source projects to provide a variety of options for delivering Web-based speech: Festival, Mbrola, Lame, Vorbis-Tools, and Bladeenc. Only Festival is required. Mbrola provides additional voices and additional language support for ATalker. Lame, Vorbis-Tools, and Bladeenc are audio encoders, compressing audio files so they move more quickly over the Web.

See the ATalker Features list for details, the ATalker Demo to try it yourself, the ATalker README for documentation, and the ATalker Download to get a copy for your ATutor installation.
