| Are there any plans to automatically authenticate learners against external databases - e.g. LDAP directory servers, IMAP, POP3 or secure NNTP servers? We're keen to deploy a number of installations & need to interface with student management systems. Posted: 2004-03-08 17:32:34 | ||

| Agreed wylric, The lack of this feature is pretty fatal for me. I use Moodle that offers these external database connections -- all I have to do is put the address of my institutions IMAP server in a box and presto. I found that when I used email authentication students would loose their passwords or even fail to get through the authentication process. The latter partly because our institution's mailer does not have clickable links and copying and pasting from an email seemed to be beyond the less computer friendly. And also, since I am using Moodle as a automatic homework setting device, the students are not keen to log in anyway. Any excuse to not-login are jumped upon by the students. When I use IMAP I know that there are using the login/password of the general computer system and that their is an office they can go to to be reissued with a password.
