Hi,

I am new to ATutor. I have a request to add options to display name format.

For Japanese, the format is last name first name.
So, would you add the following options?
1) last name first name
2) last name first name (login name)
3) login name (last name)
4) last name (login name)
5) login name (last name first name)

Thank you.

Hi!

Japanese is not alone in using that name order. smile
Ukrainian places last name first too, albeit with second name in the end.

You can change that order with the translation tool (log in as an admin -> System Preferences -> Languages Translate). For details on how to do that you can see the ATutor Handbook, help.atutor.ca/admin/?p=languages.php .
More specifically, you'll need to change language variables that start with 'display_name_format_*' .

Thanks. We've added this to the tracker, and we'll see what we can do about adding at least some of the name formats suggested.

OK, once more: this has been already reported by me on atutor.ca/view/3/8595/1.html (search for "1st name") and later fixed here: www.atutor.ca/atutor/mantis/view.php?id=2726 .

This feature gives the translator an ability to order the names in whichever way his/her language requires by just moving %1s, %2s, %3s and %4s placeholders around, dropping them, putting any symbols in between etc. etc. -- as needed.
It far surpasses in flexibility any hardcoded options one could come up with.

That's why no changes in the code are needed.

I would have agreed, but its come up a few times now. Translators don't normally figure out you can make this change by editing language. You are different case, and have a lot more experience with ATutor than most.

We are going to revisit this when we get back into bug fixing and release mode.
