Depending on the setting in the users preferences I think that ESPECIALLY on this site, there should be the function of autosubscribing posters so that they get email notification of replies.

Since many Forums/Bulletin Board Systems have auto subscription, I think that many people expect this to be a standard feature so they do not press the subscribe button at the bottom of the forum. That means that they do not get Greg and other's generous replies to their queries.

I only just reaslise that I was not subscribed to many of the forum postings here that I had posted to. I am sorry if I had not responded to kind responses.

The option to subscribe to threads that one has not posted to is very nice however.

Especially here and probably ATutor itself there should be the option of being allowed to subscribe to a whole forum so that interested parties can see when other questions are posted and can help. As it stands there are only subscriptions to threads which means that it is...Greg... and a very limited number of people that know that there have been posts to the forums.

This means that is only poor old Greg that is left to respond to the responses of the community. Ouch.

I second the opinion that one should subscribe to whole forum.

The whole idea of subscribe is that I don't have to be "on-line" to know of new postings.

But, unless I am on-line, I won't know of new threads being created.

So, if I am interested in the general topic (ie, forum), I should subscribe to FORUM.

We've had quite a few requests for this, so its now on the list. For the time being you can subscribe to individual thread, if you haven't found that yet.

Submitters are automatically subscribed to their own threads.

I just had a major hassle about this as I have to sometimes use moodle. On that I can only subscribe to the whole forum and it's a misery - I get flooded with loads of threads I don't want/ can't help on. One of the many reasons I was happy to find Atutor.

It really really needs to be set in user prefs and for a link to said user prefs to be beside wherever we opt for subscription to either forum or thread in the forum itself.

Thank you for a great cms anyway have been searching for a long time.

As a Moodler, but not a closeminded one, I would be interested to know what the many reasons that made you happy to find Atutor.

I agree that the inability to subscribe to threads over there is a drawback.

On the other hand though...is it really that much of a drawback?

I have yet to have a class where there has been too much mail. There is rather a shortage of mail and the fact that the forum responses get sent out to more rather than less students is good for my classes.

While the amount of post from the Moodle forum is a problem for some (hundreds of posts a day) it is probably a factor contributing to the fact that while the Moodle forums are thriving, these here at Atutor are not.

I think that the ability to control the amount of mail sent out by the forums would be a plus. If I were Greg I would make these forums send out mail to all those that had ever posted at least while the community is in the formatory stages.

But then again, at Red Hat there never was a thriving community either, as far as I know. Perhaps that was a deliberate policy on the part of that successful company, and a deliberate policy here too.

This is a wonderful site. The things mentioned are unanimous and needs to be appreciated by everyone.
