| I guess it is hard to provide that having in mind that there is a number of languages and some dictionaries are not good. My experience tells me that translator firstly has to use ATutor in order to understand the concept and how it works. Secondly, it is needed to test it with users and ask for their suggestions on quality of translation. If needed, translation may be polished up and if you have dialects or other variants of language in your country you can suggest some other words as replacement. Indeed, I think that it is good to write small manual on on translation so the messages may be simplified if needed (for example in work with people with learning and attention disorders). | Indeed maintaining translations is a challenge. Getting consensus on the accuracy of translations we have to leave up to the community. This is no easy task, since depending on the circumstance, what is correct for one scenrario, may not be appropriate for another. Variations need to be maintained by their individual users. If you need a simplified version for instance, make the changes you need, export the language before upgrading, then import it back into the system after the upgrade is complete. If there are inaccuracies, then its up to those using the languages to make corrections, and submit them to be included in the language database. What we may end up doing is re-instituting the skill testing question before granting translator access, at least where new translators want to maintain an existing language pack. | Hello Greg, yes, I fully agree. Thus, translation itself requires that translator really used program and is familiar with its functionality. For example, word "post" on Serbian language can be "message" and "send". Thus, it is needed after translation to check how translation works and in which part of software feature there is appropriate translation. Indeed, translation process itself requires experience and knowledge in user interaction with software and continuous evaluation and cooperation with the users themselves. Translation is based on dictionaries, but many other things apply to. Translation is complex and rather challenging activity. | Good day! I so long not ans, but: on my language some english words have 3-5 translated analogs. Basically, the translator chooses favorite analogs and use. When someone joins the translation process goes gibberish! I agree that the translation, particularly localization of programs, are not simple things, but practical experience has demonstrated the need for such dictionaries. | If you want to create one specific for your language that would be fine. I am rather reluctant to tell someone that some word must be translated in that way since different languages have a variety of meanings or non-existent translations. Some languages do have sometime misleading translations and they create translations of some words just for the sake of attempt to be native. For example, it is very hard to translate word "widget" on many languages. in some languages they have identical term for "network" and "web" which is not technically speaking always the same.
