| One thing I could definitely use would be an improved assignment drop box. I'm thinking there could be a new file storage workspace for this in which instructors could create folders for their various assignments. Students would only have the ability to browse folders and place new files. No downloading, viewing files, commenting or creating folders. I see a couple of advantages of this... 1.) Instructors could download all files for a given assignment as a .zip file. I don't like having to change folders to each student and download each file manually. 2.) It would provide instructors an "at a glance" view of who has turned in the assignment and when it was turned in. Alternatively, perhaps some kind of summary page could be developed. On that page, instructors could download all files in a .zip file for a particular assignment and see a list of who turned in what, and when. What do you think? Posted: 2011-01-12 06:08:54 | ||

| You can already download all assignment submissions in a single zip file. Click the select all checkbox at the top, then press download Posted: 2011-01-12 14:26:46 | ||

| Greg, I tried what you suggested and I got an error (see attachment). See how it puts the files submitted into student folders? What I was suggesting is putting the files into one folder. Then that would enable the zipped downloading. But, please let me know if I'm doing something wrong. Thanks. Posted: 2011-01-12 16:48:11 | ||

| That would take a fair bit of effort to add. I'm not sure it would be feasible cost/benefit wise. Keeping students files separate I'd think would be preferred by most. If we added this, there would need to be an option, and there would need to be some way to ensure files are associated with the right student, particularly when multiple files are being submitted for an assignment. | In my original proposal of a new workspace, wouldn't the keeping files associated with the right person happen automatically by the system recording who uploaded that file? Also, if the new workspace was created, there would be no problem in having multiple files uploaded for an assignment. The students would just need to say "File 1", "File 2", etc. I'm very much a novice programmer, but it seems that having a new file space and defining the permissions wouldn't be that big of a task. Am I wrong on that? Thanks for your consideration. Posted: 2011-01-12 18:36:47 | ||

| Greg, Just wanted to get your thoughts on my most recent post to this thread. Thanks. Posted: 2011-01-19 21:38:01 | ||

| If you wanted to try developing something, we might consider it. We're quite occupied with other projects at the moment. Keep in mind we don't want to over do the options available. Too many options complicate things. If it could be done as an extension of the drop box module, that would be preferred over changing the file storage utility. Files are attached to a user id so you should be able to create something to take advantage of that. Posted: 2011-01-20 09:58:35 | ||
