I had been asked to find out if Atutor has the ability to conduct a 1 on 1 dialog between a Student and instructor within a related course. I'm not looking to do this in a forum based dialog. Is this possible yes or no? If yes how would I do this?

No, there isn't a way currently to disable a forum. Might be a good feature for us to add though.

You could use the Export Forum tool to package up a forum, then delete the forum. The file in the archive is a a bunch of html files. If you wanted to make the archive available for others to see, upload it into the file manager, unzip it, then link the index page into your course somewhere.

Search the handbook is you need more details.

Good to know so with regards to the inbox could you tell me step by step A- How can I set this up properly with my course? B- How will the instructor be notified that a student is interacting with them with regard to a course. C- Also do I have to set an inbox up for each of my courses?
