I can't display a proper command 'mailto' in the text of the page.
I copied the exact tag and pasted it into the 'atutor' page whilst using the editor.
you can check the page to see the visualization error

Just type the email address with a space before and after. You do not need to use HTML to create the link. ATutor will automatically create the HTML mailto markup for you.

See the Instructor section of the ATutor Howto course for instructions on adding images.

I can add an image but it does not display. A blank area where the image should go is displayed. When I check the image properties the correct path displays. When I type this address into a web browser an error message comes up saying I don't have permission to view the file.

When I checked my File Manager the folder and images are there but the following error page comes up when I click on the images in the File Manager:

'Forbidden, perhaps you need to change the file permissions for this document or upload an index page.'

Does anyone know of a solution to this problem?

Sounds like a permissions problem. Hard to say for sure without a little detail about your system. See "Help us Help You" at the top of this forums thread list.
